U16 PlayOff

04.02.2012 SHV (Heim) - SG Wels/Lambach/Gmunden 29:29 (14:14)

Match 2: Nobody Wins, Nobody Loses!

The fans in the Riedenburghalle definitely got their money's worth today, with a crazy, roller coaster of a match.  Once again, SHV started the match cold, with very little inspiration, or strategy.  Wels scored the first 3 goals, and kept the lead for 19 minutes.  But then SHV turned on the gas, and scored 5 unanswered goals, taking the lead at 9:8.  From then on, the match was completely even, with 14 tie scores and both teams struggling to get a lead of more than one goal. FESSMANN, SISTOV, and SCHMIED dominated the first half, scoring 11 of SHV's 14 goals.

The second half consisted of trading goals, and neither team managed to get a lead of more than one goal until Wels broke out at the 50th minute, and took a 25:21 lead.  It looked like SHV had given the match away, at this point, and trainer SCHWARZ wisely called a time out to get his team back on the right track.  Afterwards, SISTOV, and UNTERSTEINER put in 6 goals, and all of a sudden the match was tied at 27 with just 3 minutes to play.  Some hectic play, a save by KLETTNER, a missed break away by UNTERSTEINER, a game saving steal by FESSMANN, and heart breaking shot over the top, at the buzzer by SISTOV, meant that the match would have no winner... but also no loser.

FESSMANN 7, SISTOV 6, UNTERSTEINER 6, FRAUENSCHUH 4, SCHMIED 3, BODIROGIC 1, FISH 1, HADZIC 1, FORSTNER, HIRSCH, KLETTNER (Goalie)

29.01.12 Union HYPO Vöcklabruck (Heim) - SHV 27:53 (7:21)

Match 1: Let the PlayOff Begin!

The U16 PlayOff started with SHV travelling to Vöcklabruck with only 8 players. The trip turned out to be fun though,  for SHV, and a nice way to open the PlayOff round with a 26 goal differential, giving them first place in the standings!

Grunddurchgang

14.01.12 SHV (Heim) - HC Eferding 35:21 (17:9)

Match 12: GAME OVER.... SEASON OVER   :(

Eferding showed up in Salzburg with only one extra player, compared to SHV's two. It seemed that Ball season (not handball) school, and other commitments, resulted in two very lean teams.  Both teams were also aware that the outcome of the match could not change anything in the standings... SHV would be finishing the season in FOURTH place... just behind their rival, Neue Heimat. Grrrrr. But if you look at the goal differential statistic... SHV is in second place, with +87!!  Awesome!

SHV struck first, and did not give away the lead for the entire match. It took SHV, however,  a good 15 minutes to establish true dominance.  The play at times in the first half was slow, uninspired, and at times sloppy.... but good enough. Eferding's #17 had scored already 4 goals in the first 8 minutes, so SHV put FORSTNER on him, in a one-on-one defense, which was very effective (#17 did not score again until about 25 minutes later, in the second half!!).  At the 19th minute, the score was still close, at 11:9 ... and that's when SHV struck! They exploded for 6 unanswered goals (FESSMANN, FESSMANN, SISTOV, SISTOV, HADZIC, FRAUENSCHUH), to go into halftime leading 17:9!

The second half saw SHV score 4 more in a row, and go up 22:10, putting any distant hopes of a victory for Eferding, securely to rest.  SISTOV dominated the SHV offense, scoring 12 goals.  FESSMANN and HADZIC both supported well, with 5 goals each, and UNTERSTEINER put in 4. It was a fair, well played match, with no cards, and no 2 minute penalties.  A nice end to the season!

Pre-Game Report: Looking back... it has been a roller coaster season for SHV. Regardless of what the result of this match is... they cannot reach the top 3.  That is too bad. One has to be especially angry at the father who stormed the court during that Neue Heimat match, back in October.  That insanity, resulted in SHV losing that match, as well as losing 2 top players for the Urfahr match.  But SHV has shown that they are a force to be reckoned with, and that no team is safe, against them!  Come to Riedenburg, and see for yourself!

17.12.11 Edelweiß Linz - SHV 25-31 (9-14)

Match 11: Too Little... Too Late

But a solid win in Linz!  SHV is just now finding their groove, and really coming together, playing as a team, and playing solid handball.  And it shows! Too bad that there is only one more remaining match, in the season.

10.12.11 ASKÖ HC Urfahr - SHV 30-29 (17-16)

Match 10: Soooooo Clooooooose!!!

But not enough.  SHV once again proved that they deserve a spot in the top 3 teams in the league... but some bad luck against the number two team from Urfahr, meant that they would have to settle for position four, in the final standings this year.

03.12.11 SHV (Heim) - SG Linz/Neue Heimat 37-24 (18-11)

Match 9: Yes We Can!!

Take THAT, Neue Heimat.

After the last battle between these two teams, where a father of a Neue Heimat player stormed onto the court, and assaulted a SHV player... all we could hope for was that nothing crazy would happen. What did happen, was that SHV played better handball, and came away with a solid win at home, against the number 3 team in the standings! Proof, that SHV can indeed compete against the top teams... and win!

17.11.2011 Union HYPO Vöcklabruck (Heim) - SHV 10:38 (5:16)

Match 8: Fun in Vöcklabruck!!

SHV brought only one extra player to their match against the winless Vöcklabruckers, hoping that the match would be relatively stress-free. SHV held their opponents to only 10 goals, while easily scoring almost every time they had the ball.

HIRSCH 12, SISTOV 8, FRAUENSCHUH 5, UNTERSTEINER 5, FORSTNER 4, SCHMIED 4, FISH, KLETTNER (Goalie)

12.11.2011 SHV (Heim) - SK Pastl Traun 24:33 (8:18)

Match 7: Grrrrrrrrrrr

These two teams should play close, exciting matches... as they are very similar... however, this tiime, SHV could not slow down league top scorer, PREINFALK (19)... and besides SISTOV (10) SHV had very little offensive power to speak of.

SISTOV 10, UNTERSTEINER 4, GOLD 3, DUREGGER 2, FORSTNER 2, BODIROGIC 2, HIRSCH 1, SCHMIED, FISH, SCHWARZ, FRAUENSCHUH, KLETTNER (Goalie)

04.11.11 HC Eferding - SHV 15-30 (5-13)

Match 6: Twice as Nice!

SHV commanded the court, and had no problem scoring against Eferding.

29.10.2011 SHV (Heim) - Edelweiß Linz 33:14 (18:7)

Match 5: We're Back!!!

Edelweiß showed up with exactly 6 players and a goalie... not enough to compete with SHV, on their home court.

SHV put the pressure on early, playing with a faster tempo than usual, and quickly built up a 5:1 advantage. Then, 5 unanswered goals and several blocks by KLETTNER, resulted in SHV enjoying an impressive  18:7 lead at the half.

With the pressure off, SHV was able to enjoy the second half, scoring almost everytime they got the ball. Sloppy play by Edelweiß, combined with solid SHV defense, gave SHV several fast breaks, and flashy goals.  Congratulations gentlemen!

Next stop.... Eferding!

22.10.2011 SHV (Heim) - ASKÖ HC Urfahr 29:35 (13:14)

Match 4: Not Quite Enough.... Again

With two players banned, and one player injured... SHV couldn't keep things together long enough to win this one.  Twenty minutes into the first half, Salzburg had taken a 13:9 lead and it looked like they might be able to go into the locker room with a commanding lead. But Urfahr, led by the HABLE brothers, found their groove... and pounded in 5 unanswered goals to make the halftime score 13:14, in their favor.

The second half was disappointing for SHV.  Once they figured out how to stop one HABLE... the other HABLE just turned on the gas, and scored at will.  HIRSCH played strong defense against M. HABLE,  while also scoring 6 of Salzburg's goals.  UNTERSTEINER, despite limping around due to injuries, managed to score 6 goals as well.

Unfortunately, KLETTNER had little chance against the barage of shots from 7-9 meters out, as the SHV defense simply could not keep Urfahr from getting clear shots on goal.

16.10.2011 SG Linz/Neue Heimat (Heim) - SHV 28:26 (14:11)

Match 3: WTF Dad?

The father of a Linz/Neue Heimat player, ran out onto the playing field, and hit an SHV player in the face, in an out of control, violent rage.

This guy should be spending some time in prison... and the match should have been forfeited, with some additional serious penalties.

Regardless of what happened in the match, if a fan (or parent) assaults a player, IT IS A CIVIL CRIME.  If this sort of behavior is allowed to occur in our handball league, it is setting a HORRIBLE example for our children, regarding sportsmanship, and acceptable socail behaviour.

I am appalled.

11.10.2011 SHV (Heim) - TUS Holzheim 16:43 (9:26)

Friendly Match: Holzheim invades Salzburg

In a friendly match, TUS Holzheim travelled to Riedenburghalle, to challenge the SHV mU16 team. From the very first whistle, it was obvious that Salzburg was facing a team which was considerably more experienced and aggressive.  Holzheim came out playing a tight man on man defense, which effectively shut down any SHV atempts at scoring. The strong Holzheim offense easily secured a 9:1 advantage in the first 10 minutes of the match.

From then on, it was a one sided match, with Holzheim controlling the play, and Salzburg either watching helplessly, or trying to put plays together with very little success.

Afterwards, in the true spirit of a "friendly match", Holzheim organized a group photo, with BOTH teams filling the goal area!!  respect to Holzheim, and SHV for sportsmanship!!  Next time Salzburg will have to get stronger, and more aggressive on defense, to have a chance against these guys.

01.10.2011 SHV (Heim) - Union HYPO Vöcklabruck 48:22 (24:14)

Match 2: Home, Sweet Home!

Salzburg put the pressure on early, building an impressive 14:6 lead, within the first 16 minutes of play. SISTOV and HIRSCH commanded the first half, together scoring 12 goals.  SHV moved the ball well, and proved to be much quicker, and more creative than Vöcklabruck.

Coming out of the locker room with a comfortable 24:14 lead, SHV kept on attacking, with several fast breaks, and quick passing. The Salzburg defense was tight, allowing very few close shots on goal.  The outside shots were often blocked by the SHV defenders, or by KLETTNER.

Vöcklabruck's only shining star during the match, was STIPIC, who scored 13 goals...  but that light was extinguished, when STIPIC committed a sensless foul, taking the legs out from under DUREGGER, and was sent off of the field with a well deserved red card.

The match proved to be a real confidence builder for SHV, with each player scoring 2 or more goals, solid defense, much improved shot blocking, and stress-free goal tending for KLETTNER.

Match 1: A frustrating first match

SHV were only able to bring 9 players to Traun, and this was not enough to stop the PREINFALK brothers (14 Goals).
